Hey guys hello and howdy do.

Well My device to help reduce lag/latency is not too complicated.   It's a HDD setup  plain and simple.

My setup goes as follows

SCSI card with 2 drives

1 drive is a Seagate Barracuda 15k 18GB drive - OS and a few OS specific apps only!

Program files folder is moved to a different drive and windows acts on it.

1 drive is an IBM 4 GB drive that I use for the only pagefile.sys on my system.

IDE's

     2 - 160GB HDDs,(games and other apps and storage) 1  -DVD burner and 1 - dvd player/cd burner

1 Venus black box with 4 - 160GB IDE hardrives (all my graphics and developmental stuff - shared out to other pc's in home)

Premise:  Thinking like a record and record player  - to access different parts you have to stop what you are accessing move the needle around and do that each time you need to access a different area of the platter.

If my OS that has to be accessed often for various untold reasons, My game, and my pagefileas well should I run out of RAM.  This causes that drives read write head to be hopping(thrashing) all over the place constantly on it's platters no?.   Why not provide seperate units for each task that each one can do at the same time if needed.

This works for me

Every little bit helps - too bad I still wait for things like "Verifying Client Data" in BF2 'et al'  though because I'm still a 32 bit guy.

Oh forgot to mention - My Killernic is shipping out tomorrow!

Bad Ass Idea!

BTW: Vista will have support for 'large flash' drives that will literally store your OS on a fast Flash drive and do caching as well on a flash.

Full Flash HD's will be coming out soon as well.. and that will change gaming in a big way.

Great idea though!

BF2 is just bad coding from DICE,  if you have under 2gigs of memory you will get load lag, fast HDD and 16mb buffer helps a lot in that game.

They did make BF2142 Verifying Client Data faster but who wants to pay full price for a mod that has ingame streaming ad's.
