I just recieved a brand new Alienware laptop, and ever since i started playing CS:S on it lags terribly my old Vaio computer works fine never lags but this 2500$ alienware laptop lags terribly but in intervals so every 2 minutes my computer will spazz out and lag for 5 seconds freezing everything and then it will glitch forward to where the game really is and then it repeats straight away four or five times and then it dissapears for a minute or two. it's extremely frustrating because i know my computer can handle the game my internet is fine and so is the server. the lag meter shows all yellow for client so im guessing that it is my computer. so how can i fix this? whats wrong?
heres my laptop details if that helps

Wow! What game is giving you trouble? CS Source? Any RED or GREEN bars on Lagmeter? (I would suspect a bad network connection.. but if you are seeing yellow)..
sounds like you have client lag (if you are getting lots of Yellow bar)
This may be your virus scanner/background programs, or possibly spyware.
Make sure you kill all the above b4 launching.
Also, your Processor is a little under-weight. but 2 GB of ram is awesome (and your graphics card seems ok)
Final idea: the game may have some sort of BUG with your proc. try upgrading the game.

Zone Alarm can really lag you stop it before you play i say
but when you played on your desktop? was it wired or wireless?
and the laptop wired or wireless?
because if it wireless you'll lag more then you would being wired
also if your running like a 50 foot wire to it that will lag it too i tryed it not that great
with your router try seting up prot forwarding,QoS and some thing like that would help if your on router
if your wireless another thing much sure that no one is stealing your internet to say.
last thing don't download anthing or don't use things like torrent that will lag you to hell
it eat up all your connect
anoter tool i use is a packet reader whatever it called go between my router and modem
to help with packet. by linksys same as my router
i have cable with the fastest modem out.
want any of my comp spec just ask.

| I'm currently running wireless. Only from the hotspot to my antenna on the roof. From there it runs through ethernet and into my NIC. Unfortunately I have no other option, as I live up in the mountains. Is there a way that I can fine tune my computer/this connection type to maximize it? Measly 512k/256k line. Thanks!

I'm getting a lot of client lag as well (for WoW). I don't think it could be my hardware. The lag is extremely spikey in game (as in, I'll be doing fine until a period of time with extreme lag, to the point of unplayability, and then returns to normal.) This usually happens in 10 minute intervals. I don't think it's my hardware. I'll post some of my LagMeter readings in a bit if necessary.
(Note that I am not running anything in the background, no firewalls, antivirus, nothing.)
I'm on SBC Yahoo DSL (or whatever they changed the name to, AT&T something) with a 2wire router wirelessly connected to a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter. (Does broadcasting the network SSID have any effect? As of now, we are NOT broadcasting it.)

I cannot be certain, but I suspect you are having Hard Drive problems...
http://www.hd4less.com/maxdiamd580u.html
If the above is your HD, then 5400RPM drives are VERY SLOW (these days)... I recommend upgrading to a 7200rpm drive (at least). and then, well, either way, defrag your HD regularly.
With the HD as full as yours is, I suspect it is quite fragmented.
A fragmented slow HD will cause lots' of Lag (and it'll be intermittent as you described).
Also, I've heard of issues with 1.5Gigs of ram not being ideal (2Gig is better).
Also, of course, a Killer NIC would not hurt! (the Wow performance impact can be very good). Of course, to be fair, it is my companies product!

Ok, thanks. I suspected it was my hard drive, although I have been defragging. I did not know that 1.5mb of RAM would be a problem, but I'll work on getting that fixed. I would consider Killer NIC if I had the money Thanks for the help.
