A small startup known as "Ageia" has produced a chip that can help process games with the PhysX code embedded into it. One example they noted was Unreal Tournament. The Engine improves game physics by accelerating those games that support those instruction sets. It sounds similar to when Intel wanted to release MMX instruction sets. In this case though, they went the sega route and added a card to supplement it, rather than integrating it or licensing it with a chipset manufacterer.

In any case, if you're interested, here is the developers website:

http://www.ageia.com/

and here is the article from "extremetech"

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1965512,00.asp

Two manufacterers, BFG and ASUS have cards, and worth $300 bones.

The review was a bit disapointing, but none the less, at least somewhat headed in some right direction. Only time will tell, but it can be as defunct as betamax.

well, ageia as a stand alone product hasnt worked out too well (not enough games support it)

but now nvidia bought them and will be adding them to their video cards within the next year or so

i think physx has a lot more potential as an add on to a vid card than it ever did as a seperate product
