One example they noted was Unreal Tournament. The Engine improves game physics by accelerating those games that support those instruction sets. It sounds similar to when Intel wanted to release MMX instruction sets. In this case though, they went the sega route and added a card to supplement it, rather than integrating it or licensing it with a chipset manufacterer.

In any case, if you're interested, here is the developers website:

<a href="http://www.ageia.com/" target=_"blank" class="SmlLinks">http://www.ageia.com/

and here is the article from "extremetech"

<a href="http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1965512,00.asp" target=_"blank" class="SmlLinks">http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1965512,00.asp

Two manufacterers, BFG and ASUS have cards, and worth $300 bones.

The review was a bit disapointing, but none the less, at least somewhat headed in some right direction. Only time will tell, but it can be as defunct as betamax.

Tytus speaking at IGC 2007 (Nov 29+30)

A bit of self-promotion, but I will be speaking at IGC 2007:
<a href="http://www.independentgameconference.com/" target=_"blank" class="SmlLinks">http://www.independentgameconference.com/

Hope to see you there.

Feel free to chat here if you have followup questions.

Tytus

Windows Vista.. Games and LAG

Okay,

So, buddy of mine who is in the computer industry just mentioned to me that Microsoft's upcoming release of Windows Vista will require all game developers to stop developing games for Windows XP if they wish to develop for Vista...

Needless to say this came as shock and peeved me a little. I don't have the fundage to play the upgrade or die game (one reason I don't but Macs) Since my buddy isn't specifically a game developer I thought I'd come to you guys...

Is there any truth to this rumor, and if so, will current research of lag on XP games really matter?

Thanks,

likeagod

Game Developers Conference

Hi from GDC!

I am walking around in my usual attire, Black pants, Black shirt, gold belt buckle.

If you see me say HI!
