| I started hosting my own Halo games instead of playing on everybody else's servers, and I win almost everytime I play. I think this is because of two reasons: 1) I am a badass with a sniper rifle or rocket launcher 2) Having the lowest latency is really a huge advantage. Of course I still lag sometimes (usually the WORSE times), but I try to help by limiting my games to 6 people or less to ease the server burden. When I play on other people's servers I usually in the top 3, but rarely win. On my own server (even playing against some of the same folks) I come out on top most of the time (75%+). Not fair I know, but I never realized how badly the odds were stacked against me when I was playing on other people's servers who were overloaded with way too many players.

Turkey, are you hosting the server on a seperate machine or are you hosting it on the same machine you play Halo on? It's nice to host sometimes, because playing on the local network that the hosted server is on, can be advantageous to any player on that network. I remember playing Half Life and Counterstrike, as well as Starcraft, and we'd always have a clear advantage in terms of speed and less lag when it came to our own server/network hosting.

Also, folks, some people don't like it when you host a server and then have the 'lowest ping' to that server... it's pretty obvious that you have an advantage!
Did you know that LLR technology allows you to 'control your ping' and set it to whatever you want, so that it will be more fair when you 'DO' host your own servers?
either way, be wary of people with really really low pings: they may be hosting the server in their house, and that's definately an advantage!

Halo is my favorite online game. I play it constantly. It has probably the worst netcode out of any multiplayers game. You have to lead 1/4 inch to hit anyone!!
Now when you hosting, and pimpin' the "0" ping....does make it a whole new ballgame.
We use to play at work on the LAN(after hours of course..hehe) and let the newer players host to keep everyone on a level playing field. Its funny how I've been playing it for 2 years, and have guys that have played a few handful of times, give me a tough battle.
Tytus any ETA on the network cards??? I can't wait to try one!!!

| I have also been playing halo a very long time and it is much better if you rent a server from a ligit company because you get so much less lag and it is a didi. I know there are people that just can not afford it but personally if I go in a server and see 1 player with 0 ping I leave because I know it is to laggy to play on. Also when ya rent a server you get to do so many more things than you can do on a regular home hosted game. Well thats my 2 cents on the topic

Did you check your Firewall settings?
That is most likely culprit.
Also if you are hosting as IP address try typing in the following ip:
127.0.0.1
(loopback)
